White Pelicans rest on a sand bar in Everglades National Park.
How I Got the Shot: During winter months, flocks of white pelicans are common in the Ten Thousand Islands, along the southern gulf coast of Florida. Where ever there is a location to rest, dozens of white pelicans will congregate. On this day, I had paddled my canoe through Chokoloskee Pass as the current drove me to the open gulf waters. At the mouth of the pass is a sandbar where these white pelicans were resting. I could not anchor my boat because of the current and depth. So, I positioned my boat and started shooting as the boat moved slowly. After several seconds, I stopped shooting, paddled back to the original location and repeated the process. Not ideal for bird photography, but with patience, I was able to capture this image with quality sharpness.
