At best guess, there are three species of birds intermingling in the freshwater prairie; great white egret, white ibis, and woodstork.
How I Got the Shot: This is not a typical bird photograph for me. To capture this scene, I pulled my car off to the side of Highway 41 (Tamiami Trail) and walked across the road toward the birds, but staying behind thick brush and trees so I could stay hidden from them. I carefully moved closer and once the crowd was in range, I attempted to compose an image that included as many birds as possible and maybe capture one in flight. The problem was, there was dense foilage preventing me from getting a clean shot. What came of that was the out-of-focus foilage created a soft overlay covering much of the bird scene. In addition, the sun was about to set behind me, so the light was golden. The combination of golden light and soft overlay makes this scene look like a painting to me. The image breaks so many bird photography rules, but it works!
