A great white egret stands elegantly amid the bald cypress trees.
How I Got the Shot: Loop Road is a scenic drive through Big Cypress National Preserve where bald cypress swamps can be experienced up close. Amazing to see inside these dark forests are the wading birds, such as the great white egret. During the winter months, the needles of the bald cypress trees (deciduous and coniferous) turn red and yellow and eventually fall off. These beautiful colors serve as a nice backdrop for this brilliant white bird. As soon as I saw the bird, I pulled off the road, got out of the car and walked toward the location where the bird stood long enough for me to capture this scene.
