This image won the 2015 Audubon Society's Fine Art category and was displayed at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History from Oct 2015 to Nov 2016. It was also a finalist in NANPA's 2017 showcase competition, and is featured in "The Book of the Bird: Birds in Art".
How I Got the Shot: I discovered these sticks that were crudely placed in the water on Biscayne Bay several years ago. At best guess, they served no purpose other than to give birds a place to rest and fertilize the seagrasses at the same time. Regardless of their purpose, I was very attracted to them and the birds. I looked for those days when the water was very calm. I set the camera to overexpose the sky and water giving it a white appearance surrounding the silhouettes.
